In Anchorage, every vehicle owner gets free one-time access to their impounded vehicle to retrieve personal belongings, regardless of the reason for impound (except vehicles impounded as evidence of a crime).

In Anchorage, Private Party Impound (PPI) towing is regulated under municipal code. Tow operators must be licensed with a PPI endorsement. Vehicle transport charge is not incurred until transport has commenced.
